Context

The colonial war (1945 – 1949) in Indonesia was the biggest overseas war of the Netherlands, with huge post-war societal impact on both sides – from local residents to returnees such as veterans and the Moluccans.

This project was made during my graduation (2021) of the BSc Communication & Multimedia Design at the NHL Stenden Hogeschool in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.

Insight

→ As it is a complex sensitive history, it has been pushed aside in years after, as well within the Dutch educational system (as research by the National Committee for 4 & 5 May tells).  Through this, a lot of youth is not up to date on the history.

→ Meanwhile, history gives a great opportunity to understand one and other to learn from mistakes.

→ To fully comprehend it, knowledge of the situation before. during and after the war is needed.

Solution

In just a few minutes, the most important moments of the decolonization get explained in a visual style that resembles the rough and dark era it was.
